National Volunteers' Week - Meet Nasima

Nasima has been busy working in many areas of the Voluntary sector. In between her own work, Nasima has been supporting our group with the helpline responding to residents who require emergency food and more recently helping drive our social media platforms.

A little bit about Nasima in her words...

I work at Ananna - Manchester Bangladeshi Women’s Organisation. I run the Youth Project and also assist with the strategic development, social media and day to day running of the office. Working in the voluntary sector means doing everything you can!

I’m also a performance poet, creative producer and practitioner. I’m currently working on a commission for New Creatives North in making an audio piece. This is funded by Arts Council England and BBC Arts. I’m excited to have my work on BBC Sounds - one of the largest audio platforms in the country!

The incredible powerhouse that is Cllr Amna Abdullatif contacted my organisation to see if we were up for partnering with the group and of course we were. We work in the heart of the community in Longsight and are proud of being involved in such an important initiative that seeks to care for our community.

Volunteering activities...

On behalf of the group I contacted local supermarkets and business to see if we could gain any support. I’ve also volunteered with the phone lines for the last few weeks speaking to residents who require our assistance. I’m also currently working on the social media and content creation for the group. It’s great to see such positive feedback with our online presence!

My highlight of working with Ardwick and Longsight Mutual Aid Group...

My highlight is yet to come - keep your eyes peeled for our post on Friday this week to mark and celebrate Volunteers Week 2020! I’ve been working with the volunteers on something beautiful!

To anyone wanting to Volunteer...

Do it, especially if you have the means to. It’s hard to make time, but you’ve got to remember that your community needs you. Especially in these circumstances that we are dealing with right now.
