Meet our Partners - Wonderfully Made Woman

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

We are pleased to share a story from one of our lovely partners Wonderfully Made Woman. They have played a crucial part during the Covid-19 crisis, supporting communities across Greater Manchester by breaking down cultural barriers and providing African food to local residents and families in need where there was limited support in place for African communities. During Easter, Wonderfully Made Woman even picked up an astonishing 100 boxes of Easter eggs and helped distribute them to many children bringing a lot of smiles during a difficult time.

As of 10th of June 2020 Wonderfully Made Woman have actually provided African food to 487 people across Greater Manchester. Amazing work!!

About Wonderfully Made Woman...

Wonderfully Made Woman are a Charitable Organisation providing holistic support for women and girls, helping them build their confidence so they can thrive, based in Manchester but provide services across Greater Manchester.

As CEO of Wonderfully made woman, my role is to oversee the day to day running of the organisation, providing one to one support for women twice a week; drop in/coffee mornings weekly and providing dance sessions where we use dance as a means to reduce stress, isolation and to build confidence.

Ehinor Otaigbe-Amedu

Wonderfully made woman is a member of the Manchester Maya project, working together with 7 other organisations to support BAMER women and girls in Manchester, a four year project which is funded by the Big lottery fund.

We are also in partnership with The Mama Health and Poverty Partnership (MHAPP), a partnership of 12 Black organisations that provides services for black women and girls across Greater Manchester.

We run confidence building workshops for women and young girls age 11 to 18 years. I raise awareness on the effect of domestic abuse on women and their children in Community Centres, Churches and University. I am also a member of BAMER Research Advisory Group (BRAG) at the University of Manchester and raise awareness on social media through Wonderfully Made Woman reality show, discussing issues relating to women and girls.

The last thing I was working on before the lockdown, was Wonderfully Made Woman Magazine, which was released on International Women’s Day.

How Wonderfully Made Woman got involved with Ardwick and Longsight Mutual Aid Group...

Our head office is in Ardwick. When Councillor Amna contacted me about setting up the Ardwick and Longsight Mutual Aid Group, I was so excited and I immediately told her I wanted to be part of it.

Activities whilst supporting Ardwick and Longsight Mutual Aid Group...

Attending the Zoom meetings when I am able to, so I get relevant information to support the African communities because our organisation stands as the first point of contact for them, helping them break cultural barrier. Secondly providing African food to those who need them, I had to start the first African food bank to support, sharing information on social media, talk shows and also I attended All FM radio interview on behalf of the group.

Highlight of working with Ardwick and Longsight Mutual Aid group...

The fact that I am able to support those in need, provide African food to over 120 people so far is amazing, the unity in the group is wonderful, everyone is so p[passionate about helping and of course the opportunity to be interviewed by All FM to talk about the great work this group is doing.

The importance of Partnerships...

I own a company called Team believe UK CIC, whose aim is to support and encourage people to work together.

I have always believed in working with people, rather than work alone, because you produce more results.  Together everyone achieves more, together we will always win. So being a partner with the Ardwick and Longsight COVID Mutual Aid Group has been very inspiring, seeing men and women from different communities and different faith come together to support our community, shows that we can only win in unity.

It has been a wonderful journey for me and our team, and I must say, I am honoured to be a part of this amazing group. I honestly believe this group deserves an award!

To anyone wanting to Volunteer...

When you volunteer, know that you are making a difference in someone’s life and the community at large.

Queen's Award...

Wonderfully made woman recently won The Queen’s Award for Voluntary service 2020. The MBE for Voluntary group. We are honoured! Secondly, we now have our Wonderfully Made Woman agazine, we would love to encourage people to share their success stories and advertise their services. Proceeds will be used to support women and girls who have experienced significant adversity.

Congratulations to Wonderfully Made Woman from everyone at Ardwick and Longsight Mutual Aid Group!
